Building a Herb Grimoire: How My ai App Powers Your Herbal Magic

Hey everyone, it’s Nicole!

I’ve been studying herbalism, apothecary and practicing my herbal magic with candles since the pandemic. Buying dried flowers and plant kits on Amazon, pictured above. There’s something so powerful and grounding about it. At its core, this practice, also known as green magic or magical herbalism, is all about using the natural energy of plants, herbs, flowers, and spices to help achieve a magical, spiritual, or healing goal.

The whole practice is built on two key things: correspondences and intention.

The “correspondences” are the unique properties and energies that every plant is believed to have. Think of it like a spiritual resume: Rosemary is for cleansing and memory, Lavender is for peace and sleep, and Rose is for love and beauty. Your “intention” is the specific goal you’re trying to achieve. The magic happens when you align the right plant correspondence with your personal intention.

But let’s be honest—that is a ton of information to remember. What’s the planetary association for Mugwort? What element is Basil? Can I mix Cinnamon and Mint for a prosperity spell?

When you’re just starting out, or even if you’ve been practicing for years, keeping all those correspondences straight is a huge challenge. I’ve always wanted a tool that wasn’t just a static book, but a dynamic, personal companion for this journey.

So, I decided to build one. I want to explain how I developed the app called the Esoteric Herb Grimoire. It was designed specifically to support and enhance these core principles of herbal magic.

From Correspondences to Code

The foundation of herbal magic is knowing a plant’s properties. The Esoteric Herb Grimoire is built around this very idea. When you search for an herb, it doesn’t just give you a definition. It consults its own “expert herbalist” AI to pull a complete magical profile.

This profile includes all the key correspondences you need:

  • Magical Properties: The quick list, like “Protection,” “Prosperity,” “Psychic Abilities.”
  • Elemental & Planetary Associations: Is it Fire or Water? Ruled by Venus or Mars?
  • Deity Associations: Which gods or goddesses is this plant sacred to?
  • Arcane Lore: The history and folklore that give the plant its power.
  • Ritual Usage: Practical ways to use it.

The app instantly provides the “what” (the correspondences) so you can focus on the “why” (your intention).

A Grimoire and Spellbook That Grows with You

Knowing the properties is step one. Step two is putting them into practice. The provided text lists common methods like oils, infusions, sachets, spell jars, and poppets. My app is designed to be your digital workbench for all of these.

  1. Your Personal Grimoire: As you research herbs, you can save them to your “Favorites,” which instantly becomes your personal, digital Grimoire. No more flipping through ten different books. All your go-to plants are in one place, complete with mystical art to help you visualize their energy. You can even add your own custom categories, like “Dream Magic” or “Protection Spells”.
  2. Your Personal Spellbook: This is the feature I’m most proud of. The app has a built-in Spellbook. This directly connects your knowledge to your practice.Let’s say you want to make a “Money-Drawing Sachet,” which often uses Basil and Cinnamon. You can go into your Spellbook, create a new spell, and add “Basil” and “Cinnamon” directly from your Grimoire as ingredients. Then, you can write out your specific instructions or incantation.Later, when you look at the entry for Basil in your Grimoire, the app will actually show you all the spells you’ve linked it to. It closes the loop, turning static information into a living, interconnected practice.
  3. Beyond the Raw Herb: Many practitioners love using essential oils for anointing or infusions. That’s why I made sure the app also fetches specific “Esoteric Oil Lore” and “Esoteric Oil Usage” for herbs where it’s relevant.

A Modern Tool for an Ancient Practice

The magic doesn’t come from the app, of course. It comes from you, your intention, and the ancient spirit of the plants themselves.

I built the Esoteric Herb Grimoire to be the tool I always wished I had. It’s a way to organize your thoughts, build your personal database of knowledge, and catalog your own unique spells. It even lets you manually add herbs that the AI might not know—like that special plant that only grows in your backyard.

And for those of us who still love the feel of paper, you can export your entire Grimoire—all your saved herbs, sorted by your custom categories—into a beautiful PDF to print and bind yourself.

It’s my way of using modern technology to make one of the oldest forms of magic just a little more accessible for everyone.

I’m so excited to share it, and I hope it helps you on your path!
