The Celestial Rhythm of Your Week – Invoking “quantum spirituality” using The Magus
The days and hours all have significance to the hermetic/esoteric spirituality student! The quintessential text I use is my copy of “The Magus”. It is also known as “Celestial Intelligencer” by Frances Barrett from the year 1801. This grimoire (or magical textbook) called to me while getting a couple magic candles at a now extinct witchy store in Pasadena (still located in Los Angeles) called The House of Intuition.
This book taught me lessons that became the cornerstone of my daily practice. It opened my eyes to the wide world of all things occult and esoteric. I call it “quantum spirituality.”

In this enlightening text, you will find a system of planetary days. This system is a cornerstone of Western esotericism. It has origins in ancient Hellenistic astrology. The core principle is simple yet profound. Each of the seven days is governed by one of the seven classical planets. These are the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Understanding the energy of each day’s ruler is essential. A practitioner can align their activities with these supportive cosmic energies. This alignment helps achieve a desired outcome.
For example, Friday feels “pleasurable” and Monday feels “lethargic” because of the energy of their planetary rulers. Planets are more than just celestial bodies. They have a direct, energetic influence on our lives and the world around us.
Here is a breakdown of the daily planetary correspondences and their associated energies:
- Sunday: Associated with the Sun, this day is for vitality, success, and leadership. Its energy is life-giving, dynamic, and creative. It’s an ideal time for focusing on health, career, and personal power.
- Monday: Ruled by the Moon, Monday’s energies are tied to emotions, intuition, and home life. It’s a day for healing, divination, and nurturing personal psychic abilities.
- Tuesday: Governed by Mars, the day is infused with courage, passion, and energy. It’s favorable for physical activities, asserting boundaries, and initiating new projects.
- Wednesday: Ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication, Wednesday is perfect for intellectual pursuits, travel, and artistic expression. It’s an opportune time for meetings, signing contracts, and engaging in any form of communication.
- Thursday: Associated with Jupiter, this is a day of expansion, abundance, and luck. It is considered the best day for magical workings related to prosperity, high achievement, and spiritual development.
- Friday: Governed by Venus, the planet of love and beauty, Friday is for pleasure, romance, and friendship. It’s a day for self-care, artistic pursuits, and relaxation.
- Saturday: Ruled by Saturn, this day is about discipline, structure, and responsibility. It is a time for evaluation and cleansing. This period brings matters to a close. Saturn’s influence focuses on limitations and endings.
Besides the planetary ruler, each day is presided over by a specific Archangel. This alignment creates a powerful framework for magical practice. It allows a practitioner to select the most astrologically and spiritually propitious time for any operation. Have fun!
After “The Magus” I asked Gemini to describe other great esoteric or occult works for your library:
