The Magick of Friday (It’s About More Than Just the Weekend)

Happy Friday, everyone!

We all know that specific feeling when Friday rolls around. There’s a collective sigh of relief, a shift toward relaxation, and a buzz of excitement for the evening ahead. But as I’ve dug deeper into my studies, I’ve realized that this “Friday feeling” isn’t just because the work week is ending. It’s actually written in the stars.

If you’ve been following my deep dives into the esoteric, you know that every day of the week carries a specific planetary energy. Today, I want to explain why Friday is the ultimate day for love, luxury, and a little bit of magic.

The Venus Connection: Love, Beauty, and Victory

First and foremost, Friday is governed by the planet Venus. In the world of magical correspondences, Venus is the heavy hitter of love, beauty, romance, and friendship.

When we look at the character of the day, it is infused with a totally feminine force. It’s not aggressive; it’s magnetic. This makes Friday the absolute best time for:

  • Self-care and artistic pursuits: If you feel like painting or taking a long bath today, that’s Venus talking.
  • Pleasure and Eroticism: It is characterized as a day of sex, sensory delight, and relaxation.
  • Connection: Whether it’s reconciling with enemies or alluring a romantic partner, the energy today is about bringing people together.

The Qabalah Connection

For those of you following the Tree of Life, the Sephirah associated with Venus is Netzach, which translates to “Victory.” Netzach sits at the bottom of the Pillar of Mercy and represents the entry into the elemental sphere where nature’s forces really hold sway. It’s the raw, emotional drive of nature.

Who’s In Charge? (The Spiritual Lineup)

It’s not just a planet running the show; there is a whole hierarchy of spiritual intelligences that have dominion over Friday.

  • The Angelic Ruler: The primary Archangel of Friday is Anael. If you are doing angel work today, this is who you call. You might also see references to Rachiel and Sachiel.
  • The Spirits of the Air: The ruling King of the Air for Friday is Sarabotes. He has a court of ministers (Amabiel, Aba, Abalidoth, and Flaef) who are subject to the West Wind. Legend says these spirits can grant silver, incite luxury, and even help make marriages happen.
  • The Shadow Side: Just as there is light, there is shadow. The demon associated with Friday is Bechard (often conjured at night between 11:00 PM and midnight), and the Qlipha (the shell or shadow side of Venus) is A’arab Zaraq.

The Magician’s Toolkit: How to Use Friday’s Energy

So, how do we actually use this information? In ceremonial magic, alignment is everything. You don’t want to swim upstream.

1. Timing is Everything

If you are planning a ritual, the first hour of the day (right at sunrise) belongs to Anael. This is prime time for invocation. If you are looking into the darker side of things, the “witching hour” for Friday seems to be specifically between 11:00 PM and midnight.

2. Set Your Altar

If you want to draw in Venusian energy, you need the right materials:

  • Metals & Stones: The metal of the day is Copper. It’s associated with that reddish-turning-green hue of corrosion. You can also use Silver, Emeralds, or Carbuncles.
  • Incense: Forget the sage today. The appropriate perfume for Friday is Pepperwort, though Rose Wood, lilac, or violet are also fantastic for setting the mood.
  • Imagery: Traditional grimoires say that Venusian spirits appear in forms like a king riding a camel, a naked girl, a dove, or even just flowers.

3. The Intention

Friday is the day to work on workings related to marriage, acquiring money (specifically silver/luxury), and success in enterprise. There are even old folk magic traditions involving “love secrets” or wearing specific talismans on this day to aid in conception and fertility.

A Note on “Good Friday”

Interestingly, Friday also holds massive weight in Christian lore. We can’t talk about Friday without mentioning the Passion of Christ. In many old conjurations, the day is invoked by the power of “Good Friday.” There is a heavy, solemn power here—the Highest God is often invoked in these texts as the one who “suffered his death on Good Friday and rose again the third day.” It adds a layer of solemnity to an otherwise pleasure-seeking day.

The Garden Analogy

I want to leave you with this thought to help visualize how this works.

Think of the cosmos as a giant field. Friday, ruled by Venus, is like a highly specialized garden plot.

If you plant seeds of love, beauty, or creativity (Venusian virtues) on this day, the cosmic energy acts like the perfect fertilizer. It ensures that your operation yields the right fruit—reconciliation, romance, or abundance. However, if you try to plant seeds of conflict or use the energy incorrectly (like using the square of Venus when the planet is in a bad astrological aspect), you might end up with weeds—strife, melancholy, or hindered fertility.

So, this Friday, lean into the luxury. Wear some copper jewelry, light some rose incense, and let the feminine force of Victory take over.
