Hello, seekers and creators!
It’s been an incredible journey developing my new app, Grimoire Oracle, and collaborating with Gemini to bring its unique oracles to life. One of the most profound and, I’ll admit, misunderstood figures we decided to incorporate is Azrael the Messenger. Before you picture a grim, skeletal figure, let me tell you—that’s exactly why I had to do a deep dive into who he really is.
When you’re creating an oracle, you have a responsibility to understand the energy and history behind the name. To build “Azrael the Ancient” for the Grimoire Oracle, I couldn’t rely on pop culture. I needed to know his true story. What I discovered was a figure far more complex and compassionate than I ever imagined.

This research project took me from the foundations of Abrahamic traditions to the heart of modern metaphysics. Did you know that Azrael’s name in Hebrew means “Whom God Helps”? It’s a stunning paradox that the angel associated with life’s end is, by name, a divine assistant.
In my research, I found that:
- In Islamic tradition, he is one of the four great archangels, a cosmic being of immense stature who comforts the dying and counsels the grieving.
- He is completely absent from the Christian Bible, where there is no single, named “Angel of Death”.
- The modern New Age movement has recast him as a gentle guide for all of life’s transitions, not just death—like ending a relationship or changing careers.
This journey was too fascinating not to share. That’s why I’m excited to announce that I’ve recorded an audio overview discussing my findings. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at the lore that powers the Grimoire Oracle.

For those who want to explore every detail, I’ve also made my full research paper available for download. It’s a comprehensive look at Azrael’s evolution from a divine agent to a powerful metaphysical guide.

All of this incredible history is what breathes life into the Azrael the Ancient oracle in my app. He isn’t an omen of doom, but a sovereign of endings and a symbol of compassionate finality. He shows courage to create a definitive end. He helps release old beliefs. He makes us understand that every ending is a necessary rite of passage for something new to begin.
I invite you to connect with this profound energy yourself.
