The Magic of Sunday

Sunday is all about its cool connection to the Sun, shaping its vibe, spiritual energy, magical links, and the best times for doing certain rituals. People often call it the Lord’s day, too.

In the tradition of ceremonial magic, Sunday is a time dedicated to matters of high authority, power, and success, drawing on the dynamic energies of its ruling celestial body.

I. Planetary Rulership and Cosmic Authority

Sunday is primarily defined by the following cosmological associations:

  • Planetary Dominion: Sunday is governed by the Sun ((\odot)). In Hebrew, the Sun is called Haminam.
  • Core Nature and Qualities: The Sun is associated with glory, rulership, and divine authority. Its nature is considered hot and dry moderately, and it is generally characterized as a masculine planet. The Sun is called the King of Stars and the fountain of life in the Celestial World.
  • Theological Status: The Sun is described as the true light and the most exact image of God himself. Its essence resembles the Father, its light the Son, and its heat the Holy Ghost.
  • Creation Association: In the Sunday conjuration, the day is consecrated by recalling that God created the world, the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them in the first day, sealing them with the holy name Phaa.

II. Magical Attributes and Purpose

The planetary influences associated with the Sun dictate the purpose and expected outcome of operations performed on Sunday:

III. Rulers, Spirits, and Appearance

The day is governed by a hierarchy of spiritual beings:

  • Archangel/Chief Ruler: Michael. Michael is the first of the Archangels, which is the order assigned to the Sun, signifying that all virtue descends from the Sun through the Moon.
  • Primary Ruling Angels (General): Michael, Dardiel, and Huratapel/Huratapal.
  • Solar Spirit: Och is a Solar Spirit to be invoked on a Sunday at daybreak to teach about the nature of Angels.
  • Demon of Sunday: Surgat is the demon of Sunday, conjured at night between eleven and one o’clock, whose office is to discover and transport all treasures and perform the operator’s will.
  • Manifestation of Spirits: Solar spirits appear “in a great form, and full,” and their motion has the color of gold. Their manifestation sign is causing “the sweat of the exorcist”.
  • Familiar Shapes: They may manifest as a king with a scepter riding upon a lion, a crowned king, a queen with a scepter, or a bird. Other shapes include a lion or a cock. They may wear yellow garments or robes of red and saffron color.

IV. Timing and Ritual Practice

Sunday’s solar nature is interwoven with the system of planetary hours, particularly the first hour:

  • Planetary Hours: The first hour of the day (beginning at sunrise) is ruled by the Sun (Angel Michael). The Sun also rules the eighth hour of the day, and the third and tenth hours of the night.
  • Auspicious Timing: Operations related to the Sun must be done in the day and hour of the Sun.
  • Preparation of Tools: The First Characters (magical seals) must be made on virgin parchment on Sunday in the Hour of the Sun.
  • Invocation Protocols:
    • To call the genii attributed to the Fiery Region, one should observe them in the first hour of a Sunday or the eighth hour of the day, or the third and tenth hours at night, directing oneself toward the South.
    • The creation of Seals and Lamens for the 72 Kings requires that the chief kings’ seals be made in Sol (Gold).
    • The invocation of Raphael, the Spirit of Science, is to be performed on a Sunday before Sunrise.
    • A seal for protection against spirits and enemies should be engraved in gold in the hour of the Sun on Sunday before Sunrise.
  • Ritual Materials (Correspondences):
    • Metal: Gold.
    • Incense/Perfumes: Saffron, amber, musk, lignum aloes, lignum balsam, the fruit of the laurel, cloves, myrrh, and frankincense. Other suitable fumigations include Red Wheat, Red Sanders, and mastic.
